As a math educator for 18+ years, Rhonda Hewer has heard many parents and caregivers say that the way their child is learning math in school is different from how they learned it. These conversations often include stories of parent frustration, confusion, worry and intimidation at the memory of their child coming home from school with math drawings and unfamiliar strategies to solve problems.
During this one hour talk, parents and caregivers of children in grades 1 to 8 will gain a glimpse into:
1. How children are learning mathematics today
2. Why learning mathematics through this approach is beneficial
3. How you can help your child succeed in math
Rhonda Hewer is the president of Dropkick Math Academy, lecturer at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Bachelor of Education program and holds a Master of Education specializing in mathematics development. She has been an educator with the Waterloo Region District School Board for over 18 years, with a passion for supporting all students in developing mathematical proficiency. Her love of math education has brought opportunities to present internationally at several mathematics conferences. Above all, she is a proud mother of three who understands full heartedly the bane of math homework.
Registrants will receive an e-mail 24 hours before the start of the program with an invitation to join.
